Community Guidelines

Last Updated: October 20, 2026

1. What This Community Is For

Alumnia brings together people who share an institution so they can stay in touch. This community is here to:

  • Stay in touch with your class and with other generations.
  • Help each other out: a question, a contact, a piece of advice.
  • Offer and find mentoring.
  • Share jobs and opportunities.
  • Organize events and join the ones others put together.

2. Be Respectful

All kinds of people are part of this community, and that's the point. The following are not allowed:

  • Harassing, bullying or intimidating anyone, in public or in private messages.
  • Hateful or discriminatory content based on origin, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability or any other characteristic.
  • Threats or incitement to violence.
  • Sexually explicit or violent content.

You can disagree with someone; attacking the person is not okay.

3. Be Yourself

This community works because everyone is who they say they are.

  • Don't pretend to be someone else, your institution or the Alumnia team.
  • Don't open fake or duplicate accounts.
  • Keep your profile accurate.

4. Take Care of Other People's Privacy

What you see in the community (profiles, contact details, the map, photos, messages) is shared to be used inside the community. So:

  • Don't copy, export or share other members' data outside the community.
  • Don't post or forward other people's photos or messages outside the community without their permission.
  • Don't use bots, scripts or automated tools to collect information (scraping).
  • Use contact details only for the purpose they were shared for.

5. No Spam and No Unsolicited Selling

The community is not a sales channel. The following are not allowed:

  • Sending mass or repeated messages.
  • Selling or promoting products or services nobody asked for.
  • Asking for money or donations, or running fundraisers.

The exception is when your institution allows it, for example in a space set up for that or in its own campaign.

6. Keep It Legal and Safe

The following are not allowed:

  • Anything illegal, defamatory or fraudulent, including scams and misleading offers.
  • Posting content you don't have the right to share, such as other people's texts, images or logos.
  • Job or opportunity posts that are not genuine or that mislead people.
  • Any content that sexually exploits or endangers children. We have zero tolerance for it; see our Child Safety Standards. To report it, email childsafety@alumnia.net.

7. Using Alumnia's AI Features

Some features, such as mentoring, use artificial intelligence. Messages written by Alumnia are labeled as AI-generated, and AI can be wrong: use your own judgment.

  • Don't include sensitive data (health, family, etc.) in your requests.
  • Don't use these features to harass, mislead or impersonate anyone.

8. What Gets Moderated and How

Any content or behavior that goes against these guidelines or the Terms of Service can be moderated. Here's how it works:

  • Anyone in the community can report posts, comments, messages and profiles.
  • The team that runs your community (or the Alumnia team) reviews reports within 24 hours.
  • Depending on the case, the content can be removed and the account restricted or suspended.
  • In serious cases, access to the community can be removed permanently.

9. How to Report

On any post, comment, message or profile, open its options menu and choose "Report". Tell us what happened; you don't need to talk to the other person first.

You can also block someone: you'll stop seeing their content and they won't be able to contact you in that community.

If something can't be reported from the app, or it's urgent, email us at support@alumnia.net. If someone is in danger, contact your local authorities first.

10. Your Institution May Add Its Own Rules

Each institution can add its own rules for its community, as long as they don't contradict these. If yours has any, they apply too.

If you have questions, ask the team that runs your community.

11. How These Guidelines Relate to the Terms

These guidelines are part of our Terms of Service. If something here conflicts with the Terms, the Terms prevail. We may update the guidelines; the date at the top shows the latest version.
